WEBINAR: Listening to Self and Others

Unless we are able to listen to ourselves mindfully, there's little chance of being able to listen well to others. Listening well to others enables us to understand the bigger picture and make informed and intelligent decisions.

Remote work complicates our communication rhythms. Listening is a muscle that is hard to flex, but it is the first step in starting important conversations we need to have. Listening to ourselves involves being present with ourselves and more aware of our needs, feelings, judgments, mental models and stories. Unless we are able to listen to ourselves mindfully, there's little chance of being able to listen well to others. Listening well to others enables us to understand the bigger picture and make informed and intelligent decisions for ourselves, our families, our teams and our organizations.

These skills take time and energy. In a culture that is biased to advocacy and action, pausing to listen and inquire feels unnatural.

During this webinar, we explore the concepts of listening, mental models and internal story-telling. We offer a reflection activity that can be done post-talk to learn how to listen better to ourselves, explore essential listening skills—asking questions, paraphrasing and empathy—and share a quick and simple template that will help you make listening a stronger muscle.
